The Pursuit of Pleasure

One Simple Truth
Enduring virtue is of greater worth than fleeting pleasure.

Scripture
Proverbs 5:3-4 ‭ESV‬‬ (Read the Full Chapter Here)
For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil, 4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

If pleasure is your goal, you can attain it. But do not be fooled, it promises much and delivers little. The pursuit of fleshly and worldly pleasures will carry moments of elation, but a lifetime and beyond of sorrow. Hear the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” To the ones who have been born again, there are pleasures of a higher sense. They are the pleasures that come through obedience; they are the fruit of faithfulness, purity, and honor. Enduring virtue is of greater worth than fleeting pleasure.

Prayer
Lord, You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11) In Jesus name, amen.
